Software
Neovim Code editor that feels like a toy after you waste months setting up the perfect config. Otherwise just install nvchad or use vim motions in vscode for most of the benefits.
Zen Browser Firefox based web browser that lets you hide as much ui as you want
Obsidian Good notetaking app with plugin support that can make it do lots
obsidian.nvim Zero bloat notetaking
Godot Engine A good FOSS game engine. Haven't seriously tried any other options yet so I don't have much point of reference.
11ty Static site generator used for this site.
Arch Linux Very customizable Linux distro but overkill for most people. Just use something like mint if you want a distro that just works. Also found a great article comparing a bunch of distros made by someone far more knowledgable on them than me.
I use because pacman and aur make installing software stupid easy compared to windows and tiling window managers are really fun. The wiki is also very comprehensive. Maybe some time I'll try nix too.
The gaming experience is surprisingly good here too, often even better than on windows. Steam has really good compatibility because the steam deck runs the arch based SteamOS. Almost any game without native linux support is playable here with proton. When my Marvel Rivals broke on my win10 dual boot (i know windows gross). I just moved over the files and it launched perfectly again.
The only reason I have windows 10 installed on my machine at all now is to play fortnite.
Aseprite A pixel art editor but I use it as a general image editor for low res images and gifs as well. Buy it and support the dev or compile from source for free.
DuckDuckGo Stupid name. Google search alternative that respects your privacy.
Krita Open source painting program. Not AS good as csp but I can't figure out csp on Linux.
Bitwarden Free password manager. Also has a browser extension.
AwesomeWM Stable and functional. No more dragging around windows and trying to press the tiny little buttons in the corner. I would like to use wayland but a million things break when I try.
Browser Extensions
UBlock Origin All you need to never see an ad ever again. Remember for creators you like turn the extension off so
you still financially support.
SponsorBlock Autoskips sponsors on youtube don't watch sponsors, configurable skip options for different types of promotion.
Return Youtube Dislikes Self explanatory. Avoid misinformation by letting other people tell you when a video is junk. That, or see the new naughtydog game get disliked to hell for being woke or something
Unhook Good for people addicted to youtube. Also turn off watch history (in youtube settings) and delete to disable recommendations and shorts completely.
Dark Reader Awful for personal sites but useful for google apps that don't have a dark mode.
Vimium Navigate the web using just your keyboard.
